Project overview
The AUTOMAT project is at the forefront of developing innovative, digitally enhanced solutions for the recycling of end-of-life batteries and electronic devices. By implementing automated disassembly, sorting, and advanced traceability technologies, AUTOMAT aims to foster a circular economy for battery materials, reducing waste and enhancing sustainable reuse.
Key objectives
Automated Disassembly and Sorting: Develop smart, automated solutions to efficiently disassemble and sort battery components, doubling processing rates and ensuring operator safety.
Digital Traceability Platform: Establish an open digital platform for battery and electronic waste traceability, supported by Digital Battery Passports (DBP) for data transparency and lifecycle management.
Energy Recovery and Second-Life Applications: Design systems for efficient battery discharge, energy recovery, and testing, aimed at predicting battery life and potential second-life uses.
Expected Impact
AUTOMAT’s advanced recycling technologies and digital tools directly contribute to EU climate neutrality and circular economy goals by:
- Increasing the reuse of battery materials and components
- Ensuring responsible resource sourcing
- And fostering innovation in battery recycling technology.
