AutoMat at Renovate Workshop 2026

A European workshop on battery circularity

On 5 May 2026, the AutoMat project participated in the clustering workshop “Circular Batteries: Pathways for an Integrated Value Chain in Europe”, organised by the RENOVATE EU Project in collaboration with LOMARTOV and INSTM, and hosted by AFIL at Innovhub SSI in Milan.

The event brought together European projects, research organisations, industry representatives, and other stakeholders involved in the battery sector to discuss current developments and future perspectives related to sustainability, circularity, and innovation across the European battery value chain.

AutoMat Presentation and Project Activities

During the workshop, AutoMat had the opportunity to present the ongoing activities and objectives of the project, with a particular focus on approaches supporting battery recycling and the development of more circular value chains for lithium batteries.

The presentation, delivered by ERP Italia through Riccardo Morina, also addressed the importance of battery ecodesign in improving recyclability, traceability, and sustainability across the entire battery lifecycle. The session provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with other European initiatives working on similar technological and regulatory challenges.

Contribution to the Roundtable Discussion

The workshop also included a roundtable session dedicated to the role of industry and private stakeholders in supporting the battery value chain and strengthening sustainability and competitiveness within the European market.

During this discussion, BALANCE Technology Consulting, represented by Reinhard Ahlers, contributed to the exchange on current challenges and opportunities linked to battery circularity, recycling capabilities, and collaboration across the sector.
